A relaxed but comprehensive 3.5-hour workshop at the Tramshed Studio that introduces beginners to the essentials of a safe and sustainable yoga practice leaving you fully equipped to join a regular class.
We’ll start with some introductions (and a cup of tea!) plus a chat about some of the reasons you might want to practice yoga. We’ll also cover off a bit about what yoga is and introduce the various different styles.
After this we’ll then settle down onto our mats to work through the key groups of poses (or asana) you’ll come across in class, giving you a practical understanding of the necessary foundations for each. You can expect to experience standing poses, forward bends, back bends, twists and sun salutations – all the time learning about alignment, upward and downward energies, and how to simultaneously find ease and stability throughout.
During the workshop we’ll also introduce some of the breathing practices (or pranayama) – explaining how the breath is an essential to the practice of yoga – and in daily life too.
Finally, we’ll finish up with a guided relaxation accompanied by singing bowls and leave time at the end for a chance to ask any last questions.
The workshop is geared towards total beginners (please do get in touch in advance if you have any injuries or are pregnant) and will be delivered at a relaxed pace in a comfortable and informal manner.
The workshop provides:
- A safe, non-pressured environment in which to begin your practice
- An introduction to the wider context around what yoga is
- A thorough grounding in the key principles of yoga asana (physical practice)
- An introduction to the practice of pranayama (breathing techniques)
- The beginnings of a new-found mindfulness to take away into everyday life

Workshop places are £35 per person and in 2019 there will be both weekend and weekday sessions!
