Pause. Release. Relax.
A slow and deeply releasing form of yoga, the yin practice works much deeper into the body in order to access and nourish the connective tissue and fascia that weaves in and around our muscles, organs, nerves and lymph. In contrast to other practices, poses are held for perhaps 3 to 5 minutes and are predominantly floor-based which means we use of lots of props – to support the body and allow for release.
‘Yin’ of course is the gentler, softer partner to the more fiery and active ‘yang’, and with the slowing down comes a dropping into the parasympathetic nervous system (where we ‘rest and digest’) that gives us the space to move away from the mind chatter towards something far more serene. It’s the perfect practice for an alternative Friday night in!
